Suspect in August hit-and-run extradited from Florida

A Mount Prospect woman charged in a Glenview hit-and-run death this summer has been extradited from Florida, officials said.

Ewelina Pikulska, 40, of the 1100 block of Hunt Club Drive, was driving south on Sanders Road near South Parkway Drive Aug. 21 when she struck Trinidad Salago, 59, of Wheeling, who was on a bicycle, according to Glenview police.

She is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and leaving the scene of an accident involving a death - failure to report within a half-hour.

A warrant was issued and bond was set at $750,000 in October for Pikulska, who was living in Des Plaines at the time. Authorities learned Pikulska was in Florida, and the Okaloosa County sheriff's office arrested her Oct. 27 to await extradition.

She was in Skokie for a hearing Saturday and bond was set at $100,000, meaning $10,000 would have to be posted for her to be released while her case is pending. As of Wednesday afternoon, she was not listed as an inmate on the Cook County Jail website. She is due in court again Feb. 1.
