Fremd grad Tauchman signs one-year deal with Hanwha Eagles in KBO

After playing five seasons with the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants, Mike Tauchman is heading to the Korea Baseball Organization.

According to the Yonhap News, Tauchman signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Hanwha Eagles, it was announced Friday.

After graduating from Fremd High School in 2009, Tauchman was a four-year starter at Bradley University. In 2013, he was voted Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year and drafted by Colorado on the 10th round.

The outfielder was traded from the Rockies to the Yankees in March of 2019 and he was dealt from New York to San Francisco last March.

In 257 games with the Rockies, Yankees and Giants, the 31-year-old outfielder hit .231/.326/.378 with 17 home runs and 78 RBI.

Tauchman's best season was 2019 when he hit 13 home runs and had 47 RBIs in 87 games for the Yankees. He didn't hit another homer for the Yankees before being traded to the Giants midseason in 2021.

Hampered by a knee injury last season, Tauchman hit a combined .181/.284/.283 with 4 homers and 15 RBI in 75 games with New York and San Francisco.

• Former outfielder Yasiel Puig signed a one-year, $1 million contact with South Korean club Kiwoom Heroes, it was announced Thursday.

Puig, 31, last played in the majors in 2019 when he played 100 games for the Cincinnati Reds and 49 for the Cleveland Indians before becoming a free agent. He most recently played in the Mexican League.

Puig batted .277 with 132 home runs and 415 RBIs while appearing in seven major league seasons, the first six with the Dodgers where he earned an All-Star selection in 2014.

The Seoul-based LG Twins announced it signed former Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Adam Plutko to a one-year deal potentially worth $800,000, including a maximum $300,000 in incentives. Plutko appeared in 38 games for the Orioles this year and went 1-2 with a 6.71 ERA.
