Fourth generation takes the helm at Elgin's Kellenberger Auto

ELGIN - Kellenberger Auto Service in downtown Elgin said the fourth generation of leadership is about to take the helm. Established in 1939 by Herman Kellenberger, his great grandson, Carlton Kellenberger, will become the new president.

The current president, David Kellenberger, will remain as board chairman while his brother, Jack Kellenberger, will be retiring.

Kellenberger Auto is an independent, full-service repair facility. With eleven bays and certified technicians, it is able to handle a wide variety of maintenance and repairs.

"Carlton would make my father and grandfather very proud that he wished to keep the business in the family," David Kellenberger said. "He is hardworking and I know our customers will continue to trust us with their automotive needs."

Kellenberger Auto, 217 Symphony Way, handles about 3,000 repairs per year and also has customers who have been coming for generations.

"It's fun to hear the stories from our customers about when their grandparents would bring in their vehicles," David said. "I remember talking to Ernie Ludwig about when his father's dairy switched from horse drawn to motor vehicles. My grandfather would work into the night to have them ready for the next day's milk deliveries."
