Neighbors in the News: Boys & Girls Club of Lake County names new programs director
Robert H. Marshall Jr. has joined the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County as director of Programs & Impact.
Marshall, an alumnus of Boys & Girls Club programming himself, received a bachelor's degree in sociology with an Africana emphasis from North Park University and a master's degree in higher education leadership and administration from Purdue University.
His experiences include creating and implementing various youth programs for teens and young adults focused on providing mentoring, tutoring, college prep, leadership development, trauma support, and more.
Along with creating development programs for diverse youth, Marshall also has experience focusing on, not only recruitment, but retention of youth in these programs, creating resources for parents to become involved in their child's development, and bringing in community partners and resources to increase program impact.
"We are thrilled to welcome Robert to our team," says Boys & Girls Club of Lake County CEO Megan McKenna. "His expertise, values, and commitment to our community align with the club's vision, and will help push our organizational and community transformation forward."
Jennifer Tee was named to the newly established role of Diversity and Inclusion officer at Schaumburg-based Lavelle Law.
Tee has been with Lavelle Law for 10 years and focuses her practice on litigation, business law, probate litigation and employment law matters. She welcomes the opportunity to take on the new responsibilities.
"I'm proud that our firm has been at the forefront of the issue of inclusion, not only for our employees but for our clients as well," Tee said.
"Our world is becoming much more aware of respecting and accepting people of all backgrounds, but it is important that there be substance behind the statements that many companies make. I look forward to putting our ideas into action as Diversity and Inclusion officer."

Round Lake Beach resident Jahaira Gonzalez, Ripon College Class of 2023, was awarded a scholarship to participate in Project Global Officer (Project GO) and learn Indonesian. She is a cadet in the Ripon College, Ripon, Wisconsin, Red Hawk Company ROTC.
Project GO is a Department of Defense initiative intended to improve the language skills, regional expertise, and intercultural communication skills of ROTC cadets and future military leaders. Project GO funds domestic and overseas ROTC language programs and scholarships while working with Army, Air Force and Naval ROTC units throughout the United States.
Gonzalez and the other cadets were immersed into a new culture and given an extensive education on a critical language to the military.
In October, Gonzalez, who is the daughter of Wilfredo and Velma Gonzalez, contracted to serve in the U.S. Army after graduation. She is a psychology major.
• Navy Seaman Matthew Gordon of Mount Prospect is serving at the Naval School of Music at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Gordon, a 2017 Prospect High School graduate, is training to be a Navy musician.
The Naval School of Music provides specialized training for personnel of the Navy and Marine Corps. The school provides basic and advanced levels of instruction to military musicians of the Navy and Marine Corps to prepare them for the challenges of performance within a variety of military ensembles.
"Once I officially become a Navy musician, I will be responsible for providing music at ceremonies and during community outreach events," said Gordon.
"Being a military musician has been a longtime goal of mine, as it is the most stable professional route for euphonium players."
According to Navy officials, following basic training, sailors and Marines report to the Naval School of Music to enhance their musical and military knowledge, preparing them to receive the musician designator and ultimate assignment to a fleet band.
