Police: Caregiver stole more than $12,000 from elderly Bartlett woman

A 22-year-old Streamwood woman faces a charge of financial exploitation of an elderly person alleging she stole thousands of dollars from an 87-year-old woman in her care, Bartlett police said Tuesday.

Jocelyn Castillo was arrested Friday on the felony charge after a three-month investigation into the accusations, according to Bartlett police.

Police said the investigation began Jan. 22 when a resident reported that she had discovered several large ATM withdrawals were made from her elderly mother's bank account.

According to police, the investigation determined that Castillo, the woman's paid primary caregiver, withdrew cash from her bank accounts, used the woman's credit and debit cards for personal purchases, and electronically transferred money from the woman's bank accounts to pay off credit card debts.

The total illegal transactions were in excess of $12,000, police said.

Castillo was taken to the Cook County jail after her arrest and later released on a $10,000 individual bond, police said.
