Threat leads to brief evacuation of Palatine elementary school
A threat left on the voicemail of a Palatine elementary school led officials to send students to another building "out of an abundance of caution" before the start of classes Monday morning.
The threat to Lincoln Elementary School proved to be unfounded, police later said.
"Class is back to normal," Palatine police Cmdr. Bruce Morris wrote in an email after students returned to the building at 1021 N. Ridgewood Lane.
"I cannot offer further comment, as there is an active investigation into the matter."
Students arriving at school for the start of the day were taken to nearby Sundling Junior High while police investigated the threat.
"We have received the all clear from the Palatine Police Department and our students are being transported via buses back to Lincoln," a message on the school's website read after students began returning. "Our staff and students did a wonderful job responding quickly to the situation and we appreciate everyone's' support in keeping safety at the forefront of our schools."
