Man, woman shot to death, bodies found in car in NW Indiana

GARY, Ind. (AP) - A man and woman were found dead from gunshot wounds in Gary inside a car that was running and had its hazard lights activated, authorities said.

The bodies were found early Saturday inside a Nissan Maxima by a Gary police officer who responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle, said Gary police Lt. Thomas Pawklak.

The vehicle was still running, the hazard lights were on and the woman's body was in the driver's seat, while the man's body was in the front passenger seat, he said.

Both had suffered gunshot wounds. Police are investigating the deaths as homicides.

The Lake County coroner's office identified the woman as Mary Jones-Washington, 55. Police said the man was 56 years old but his identity has not yet been released, The (Northwest Indiana) Times reported.

The relationship between the man and woman was not immediately known.
