Employee shot, injured during armed robbery of Marengo gas station
Police are searching for two men in connection with a shooting that sent a Marengo gas station employee to the hospital early Wednesday.
The man shot during a suspected armed robbery at a Marengo Circle K/Shell gas station was flown to a hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Marengo police responded about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday to the business at 600 N. State St., which is also Route 23.
The victim was treated at the scene by Marengo Fire & Rescue personnel, then flown to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, Police Chief Paul Fritz said.
Police are looking for two men, possibly 25 to 35 years old. Both were armed with handguns and took an unknown amount of money. The general public is not believed to be at risk, Fritz said.
The first suspect was described as a Hispanic man, about 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-5-inches tall, with a tattoo or mark on his right cheek. The man was seen on surveillance footage wearing a black hoodie with the text "Duckin bad vibes" on the chest, according to police.
The second suspect also was described as a Hispanic man, about 5-foot-8 to 6-foot-1-inches tall. He was seen wearing boots, black jeans, a black jacket with a stipe on the shoulder and an unidentified white logo on the right chest, police.
Officers are reviewing surveillance footage available from the robbery, police said.
