Bus collides with semitrailer in Indiana, killing passenger

IDAVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A collision between a bus and a semitrailer in northern Indiana killed a passenger and left the bus driver in critical condition, police said.

Lora E. Anderson, 49, of Monticello died at the scene Tuesday afternoon following the head-on collision between the Peak Community Service bus she was riding on and a semitrailer, police said.

The bus driver, Paige Schwartz of Kentland, was headed westbound on U.S. 24 in eastern White County when the bus crossed the centerline and crashed into the eastbound semitrailer near the town of Idaville, about 35 miles (56 kilometers) northeast of Lafayette, the White County Sheriff's office said.

Schwartz was taken by helicopter to South Bend Memorial Hospital, where she was in critical condition Wednesday, police said.

The truck driver, Sandeep Singh from New York, was treated at a local hospital and later released.

The crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's department, the White County coroner and Indiana State Police.
