2 women in critical condition following Wauconda crash Friday

Two women are in critical condition at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville following a Friday afternoon crash on Route 12 in Wauconda, police said.

The accident occurred about 1:35 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Route 12 just south of Case Road, according to a news release from the Wauconda Police Department.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Mack dump truck pulling a trailer that was carrying a bulldozer was pulling out from a private drive in the 29000 block of Route 12 with the intent to travel northbound. Police said that according to a witness, the driver of the BMW 325i collided with the rear end of the truck and trailer.

The truck driver, 69, was uninjured. The BMW was driven by a woman and occupied by one female passenger, police said.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and the Wauconda Fire District assisted police. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
