Rep. Schneider says this year's Juneteenth commemoration is particularly important

U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider said this year's Juneteenth commemoration is particularly important in light of George Floyd's recent murder by police in Minneapolis and the resulting protests.

"(It's) a time to talk about where we are as a nation and how to move forward to a better place," Schneider, a Deerfield Democrat who represents Illinois' 10th District, said during an online discussion of how Black-owned businesses are faring during the COVID-19 crisis.

Schneider went on to call slavery "America's original sin" and said the consequences of that history still reverberate in the inequality and racial discrimination many people experience today.
