Naperville Park District names new police chief

A longtime police officer, Steve Schindlbeck, will be sworn in June 15 as the new Naperville Park District police chief.

He will replace former chief Carl Schnibben, who retired in April.

The swearing-in ceremony is slated for 9 a.m. June 15 at Rotary Hill along the downtown Riverwalk. Social distancing practices will be required.

Schindlbeck comes to the park district with more than 30 years of experience in law enforcement, most recently serving as patrol commander with the city's police department. He has served as deputy emergency manager for the city and as a member of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force.

He has worked in partnership with park police for many years to manage security for large outdoor events such as Ribfest.
