Three lootings overnight in Elgin

A jewelry store, an auto-parts store and a loan/pawn store were looted Monday night into early Tuesday in Elgin, police said.

The commercial burglaries were reported at 8:22 p.m. at a jewelry store in the 0-100 block of Clock Tower Plaza; at 10:52 p.m. at the auto parts store in the 700 block of Villa Street; and at 12:16 a.m. at the loan/pawn store in the 1400 block of Main Lane, police said.

There also were three reports of criminal damage to commercial property.

A door was broken at 11:04 p.m. at a commercial building n the 800 block of Dundee Avenue; a window was broken at 11:13 p.m. in an office building 600 block of Wing Street; and objects were thrown at midnight at the windows of a gas station in the 200 block of South McLean Boulevard, police said.

Officers conducted 199 checks of premises throughout the city until 11 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

The previous night, between Sunday and Monday, four businesses were looted and officers made 357 premise checks. Lootings have been reported all over the country following protests about the death of George Floyd, who died May 25 in police custody in Minneapolis.
