Davis helps Huntley claim FVC indoor championship
Huntley's Daryn Davis is certainly starting her senior track season on a high note.
Davis claimed her third straight Fox Valley Conference indoor championship in the 60 meter hurdles at Tuesday's event at Burlington Central.
Davis, who won the 60 hurdles in 8.8. was third in the event as a freshman.
"I am off to a good start in the indoor season," said Davis. "I want to finish in top two in the state during the outdoor season."
The Huntley senior, who will run at Brown University next season, also won the 200 meters in a clocking of 27.76.
Davis was one of the stars as the Red Raiders cruised to the team championship with 148.33 points. The host Rockets were a distant second with 74.
Other first place efforts for the Raiders included Alexandra Johnson (60, 8.05), Molly Allen (800, 2:32.34), Bailey Wilk (3200, 11:35.95), and Cameryn Piskule (shot put, 11.11 meters).
The Red Raiders' 800 relay of Sammi Campanelli, Jessie Ozzuato, Ally Jorgenson and Johnson claimed top honors with a time of 1:50.31.
Central, in its first season in the FVC, were paced by junior Brooke Barkocy, who won the 400 meters in 59.72.
"The competition in this conference is so strong," said Barkocy. "It was a lot of fun. I was finally able to get the lead on the final lap. I am having a good indoor season and I hope that carries over to the outdoor season."
Barkocy also ran the anchor lap on the winning 1,600 relay team, which crossed the finish line in 4:11.17. The Central junior was joined in the winners circle by Emily Stark, Fiona Pedone and Lauren Dowd.
Central senior Megan Gasparaitis won the pole vault (3.36 meters).
Jacobs, with sophomores Kelly Carpenter and Elisabeth Kania finishing first and third respectively in the 1,600, was fifth with 54.20 points.
Carpenter won the distance event in a time of in 5:25.36.
"Everything is going well in the indoor season," said Carpenter. "I feel like I am improving all the time."
Kania was third with a clocking of 5:26.43.
"Kelly and I really push each other," said Kania. "Both of our goals is to make it to the state finals (outdoor season)."
The Golden Eagles' Carpenter, Kamia, Alyssa Demma and Avery Mason ran to the 3,200 meter relay title in a time of 10:14.16.
Cary-Grove was sixth with 53.16 points.
The Trojans' top finishers were Morgan Dieschbourg (1,600) and Audrey Turner (shot put) who were second. Cary-Grove's 3,200 relay team of Dieschbourg, Abby Williams, Ada Saletnik and Delaney Blohm was runner-up to Jacobs.
Crystal Lake South, led by a first place effort by Ashley Ciezadlo in the triple jump (11.06), was seventh with 48 points.
Hampshire, eighth with 33.33 points, got fourth place efforts from Karolina Ryzka (200, triple jump).
The Whip-Purs' 1,600 relay team of Naomi Jones, Hannah Garcia, Hannah Evinger and Lauren Zemba placed fourth.
Dundee-Crown was ninth with 28.70 points.
The Chargers' best effort came from Kaylee Brodie who was fourth in the 3,200.
