Eggceptional Cafe set to open in mid-April in Algonquin

A new breakfast restaurant is coming to the Randall Road corridor this spring

Eggceptional Cafe is expected to open in Algonquin sometime in mid-April, owner Andy Ahmeti said.

The restaurant will serve up breakfast favorites, lunch specials and food with a modern twist, Ahmeti said.

Eggceptional Cafe will fill the spot left vacant by the former Buddyz Pizzeria at 2749 W. Algonquin Road, on the south side of Algonquin Road, just west of Randall Road. The pizza restaurant closed last May after 13 years.

Ahmeti said he saw the vacant business and envisioned a breakfast and lunch spot, where locals would love to come with friends and family for good food.

"It's a busy area, and I like the area. I am absolutely excited to open here," Ahmeti said.

Ahmeti has two other similar restaurants in Buffalo Grove and Bartlett called Flappy's Pancake House. And he has a third restaurant set to open soon in Carol Stream, about the same time as the Algonquin location.

With the new restaurants, he said, there will be a new concept, but the locations still will continue to serve up pancakes and favorites that everyone loves.

"We are going to a modern name and modern style now," he said. "Everything is fresh, from A to Z."

For example, he said, they are renovating the entire space that once housed the former pizzeria. There are new floors, new restrooms and new decor. There also will be a full coffee bar, along with new, modern food choices, he said.

Ahmeti has been working in the restaurant business for 30 years.

In the 1980s and 1990s, his parents were in the restaurant business, and he worked with his father at their restaurant in Hoffman Estates.

Over the years, he worked in dinner restaurants, but it was always his goal to do a breakfast variety concept, he said.

"Here I am now. Doing what I set out to do and creating a memorable breakfast experience for people," he said. "When you do what you want and have a goal, you do it great."

Ahmeti said he is now ready to carry on his family's tradition with the new Algonquin business.
