Use mall event as learning opportunity
The recent incident at Woodfield affords an opportunity to improve measures in place at the mall and any business. Mayor Dailly makes a great point in taking a stance on bollards. This incident identified a weakness which can be corrected.
Fortunately it was brought to resolution this time with less injury or damage than what could have occurred. Those working in public safety responsibilities have learned a lot in the recent decades. We took things like this whether locally, nationally or internationally as an opportunity to learn and improve how we respond.
Schaumburg has much to be proud of for residents and businesses. The police and fire departments are trained to respond rapidly, with safety a priority. Those responsible for any business should embrace what happened and take a good look.
It always helps to have another review too, and the police department can help if requested. Don't let this energy fade, address it now so safety remains a priority. Unfortunately we can't always control what others do, but we can control how we prepare and respond.
