Girls volleyball: Palatine third at Pifer Invite

Palatine's girls volleyball team went 4-1 to take third place at Saturday's annual Pifer Classic at Prospect High School.

The Pirates notched two-set wins over Rolling Meadows, St. Viator de Crystal Lake South and stopped Trinity 15-25, 25-13, 17-16.

Palatine's only loss was to South Elgin (25-19, 25-17), which went 5-0. Oswego took second place. Host Prospect went 3-2 and finished fifth.

Emily Campe (46 kills), Sarah Elischer (24), Sydney Wiebe (22) and Karina Szafraniec (18) and Jillian Smith (14) led the attack for Palatine (13-8).

Setter Allison Drake collected 112 assists while Smith led the defense with 37 digs and Elischer collected a team-high 7 blocks.

Grace Cacini led the Knights (13-6) with 47 kills, followed by Jenna Acosta (21) and Ellen Sherwood (15). Acosta also had 5 blocks while Mia Farrady collected 65 digs and Cacini 55. Sarah Skaggs handed out 95 assists.

Rolling Meadows (7-17) went 1-4 in the invite, getting its win over St. Viator 25-20, 25-21.

Ashlyn Ryan (25 kills), Patryjca Winnicki (17), Colleen Cox (9), Nicole Dimova (8 kills) and Bianca Madey (5) led the attack for the Mustangs.

Lilly LaFleur (21 kills), Marie Torosian (19) and Lauren Allaire (13) were top attackers for St. Viator, which received 38 assists from Erin Aldana and 27 from Cailyn Harrington. Gianna Saverino served 6 aces.

IMSA invite: Leyden was 0-4 at the Illinois Match & Science Invite.

Seniors Kinga Nowacyk (8 kills, 1 ace), Jocelyn Escamilla (51 assists, 8 aces, 4 kills), Jailynn Bravo (15 kills, 3 aces), Summer Mohammad (15 kills, 3 aces) and Elle Engelke (8 kills) helped lead the Eagles.
