Amine Harit leads Schalke to 3rd consecutive Bundesliga win

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) - Amine Harit scored a late winner and set up the other goal as Schalke beat Mainz 2-1 Friday for the side's third consecutive Bundesliga win.

Harit helped Suat Serdar break the deadlock in the 21st minute and scored the winning goal with a sublime strike in the 89th, after Karim Onisiwo had equalized for the visitors.

Schalke dominated possession from the start but lacked the cutting edge to really trouble Robin Zentner in the Mainz goal until Harit set up Serdar, who refrained from celebrating against his former club.

A fan needed medical attention in the stands, but there was little happening on the pitch until Mainz striker Onisiwo came on in the 71st.

The Austrian forward equalized four minutes later, even with four Schalke defenders around him. Jean-Paul Boetius played the ball in and Onisiwo simply turned around and unleashed a perfectly placed curling shot inside the far corner.

Harit saved the best for last, however, when he took a pass from Jonjoe Kenny, went past a defender and then curled the ball with the outside of his boot inside the far past from about 15 meters (yards) despite a host of defenders in his way.

Schalke moved level with Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of the rest of the weekend's games. Leipzig visits Werder Bremen on Saturday.
