'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' to play Chicago next year
Less than three months after it began Broadway previews, producers of the lush and lavish "Moulin Rouge! The Musical" announced they are taking the show on the road.
On Thursday, Broadway in Chicago announced the show's North American tour will begin next year and include a run Dec. 17, 2020, through Feb. 21, 2021, at the James M. Nederlander Theatre, 24 W. Randolph St., Chicago.
"We're keen to share the enthusiasm for 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' across the country," said producer Carmen Pavlovic in a prepared statement. "It's thrilling that a second company will be going out to audiences across North America just one year after the Broadway opening."
Adapted from Baz Luhrmann's 2001 Academy Award-winning film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, the jukebox musical about a struggling writer in love with a cabaret chanteuse in 1899 Paris features songs by Beyoncé, Elton John, Lady Gaga, The Rolling Stones and Katy Perry among others. The score includes Labelle's 1974 hit "Lady Marmalade" by Bob Crewe and Kenny Nolan.
