Planned Parenthood reopens Fort Wayne health center year

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Planned Parenthood has reopened its health center in Indiana's second-largest city more than a year after the center closed.

The Fort Wayne health center reopened Tuesday. Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky said in July 2018 that it closed the center following what it called years of growing intimidation and harassment of the center's staff by supporters of anti-abortion groups.

The Indiana affiliate's spokeswoman, Wanda Savala, said in a statement Friday that "we will not be intimidated by the individuals and organizations who seek to control our bodies and our lives."

The center doesn't perform abortion procedures, but provides birth control, sexually transmitted disease testing and other services.

Planned Parenthood says that reopening the center had been a "top priority" since its merger this year with Planned Parenthood's Seattle-based affiliate.
