Big response to free lunch program at Round Lake library

More than 2,300 free boxed lunches were served from June 3 to Aug. 16 as part of a new summer meal program at the Round Lake Area Public Library in cooperation with the Northern Illinois Food Bank and Illinois State Board of Education. The favorite lunch was the taco meal and the least favorite was hummus, although kids were able to find something in the box they enjoyed, according to the library. Besides lunch, kids checked out books, participated in programs and signed up for summer reading, with more than 750 sign-ups for kids and 249 for adults. Community partners such as Lake County Health Department, Advocate Children's Hospital and the bilingual parents adviser committee at Round Lake District 116 were on hand on Fridays.
