Carol Stream teen wins Champion award at Illinois State Fair

Hunter Hayden, 14, of Carol Stream received the Champion award for Theatre Arts at the Illinois State Fair, which wrapped up its 166th year on Sunday, Aug. 11.

She scored 95% with excellence in the category. After qualifying as a delegate in the DuPage County Fair, she competed in the state fair and became a Champion. She is an aspiring actress and wants to inspire others like her to pursue their dreams.

The judges remarked on the short film, "Emily: The Babysitter," where she helped write the script, perform and was part of the production, as "professional - the whole package script to promo material to final product" and she "believes in herself and knows what she wants to do and articulates well."

Hunter is a part of the 4‑H community where more than 100 public universities across the nation provide experiences where young people learn by doing.

For more than 100 years, 4‑H has welcomed young people of all beliefs and backgrounds, giving kids a voice to express who they are and how they make their lives and communities better. Through 4‑H programs, nearly six million kids have taken on critical societal issues, such as addressing community health inequities, engaging in civil discourse, and advocating for equity and inclusion for all.
