Tuesday, Aug. 20: The First Division Museum at Cantigny Park in Wheaton is planning a warm welcome for more than 50 historic military vehicles and their owners as part of a two-day stop in DuPage County during the 2019 Transcontinental Motor Convoy, sponsored by the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA). The convoy, beginning Aug. 11 in Washington, D.C., and ending in San Francisco on Sept. 14, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the U.S. Army's first motor convoy across the United States in 1919 along the famed Lincoln Highway. The restored vehicles will be staged at Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are invited to come see them and interact with their owners, most of whom are veterans and collect military vehicles as a hobby.

Saturday, Aug. 24: Lake County Sheriff's inaugural Classic Car Show to Benefit Special Olympics, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Hosted by Blackdog Speed Shop, 600 Barclay Road, Lincolnshire. Sunday, Sept. 1: Danny Sipple Fundraiser Car Show, Hanover Park Train Station, 1975 W. Lake St., Hanover Park. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. All years, makes and types of show vehicles. All proceeds from $10 entry fee will benefit Danny, who was born with spina bifida. He requires a specific type of bed, which needs to be replaced. Our goal is to get him that new bed! Monday, Sept. 2: Skip's Tribute Cruiser's Car Show, 9:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. Car show at River Grove Moose Lodge, 8601 Fullerton Ave. at River Road, followed by a caravan to the original Skip's location for a photo op (next to the McDonald's, 8327 W. North Ave. at First Avenue, Melrose Park). Entry fee $15. Commemorative dash plaque to the first 50 registrants. Top 40 awards at 2:30 p.m. and door prizes. Sunday, Sept. 8: 33rd annual Chicagoland British Car Festival, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine. One of the largest and most entertaining British car events in the U.S. More than 500 classic British cars expected to be on display and over 2,000 people will attend The festival features authentic British food, Scottish dancer entertainment, technical learning sessions, car merchandise giveaways, classic car parts vendors and the latest import car models from Great Britain. Spectator admission is free with donations encouraged for Shelter Inc., a no-profit organization dedicated to providing community-based emergency and longer-term housing for abused and neglected children. Saturday, Oct. 5: The Elburn Lions Club will host its annual Car Cruise & Steak Dinner. Cruise participants should be at Elburn Lions Park, 500 Filmore St., by 2 p.m. to embark on a drive through the countryside for about 45 minutes. Participants will then visit a local engine rebuild shop, Auto Machine Inc., before returning to Elburn Lions Park where a rib-eye steak dinner with a salad bar and baked potato will be served. American Legion Post 36 in Des Plaines, one of the oldest in the state, has reorganized a Riders Group and is looking for additional members to join. Qualification are: membership in the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, and have a licensed motorcycle of 300 cubic centimeters or larger.
