Retired Hoffman Estates, Mundelein fire department leader dies at 91

Edward Kalasa, who served in top leadership roles for the Hoffman Estates and Mundelein fire departments in the 1980s, died peacefully at his home Monday at the age of 91, officials announced Wednesday.

Kalasa began his career with the Hoffman Estates Fire Department in September 1957 and retired as deputy chief in November 1982, according to the fire department. He then served as Mundelein's fire chief from 1983 to 1990.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, at Morizzo Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2550 W. Hassell Road in Hoffman Estates. A final viewing and prayers will be held there from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13.

A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, at St. Hubert Catholic Church, 729 Grand Canyon in Hoffman Estates.
