No threat to public after crash leads to chemical spill in North Barrington

Around 75 gallons of anti-mosquito chemicals were spilled on Carriage Road in North Barrington after a one-truck crash Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities. Officials have determined there is no risk to the community in the immediate area.

A 27-year-old Alsip man employed by a mosquito-abatement company fell asleep while driving a company truck on the 100 block of Carriage Road in North Barrington, veers off the road and struck a tree, according to Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Christopher Covelli.

The container holding the pesticide leaked, spilling around 75 gallons onto the ground. Fire officials said the pesticide did not go airborne, and they concluded there was no risk to community in the immediate area.

An environmental service company has been called to clean up the spill, Covelli said.

The driver was not injured.
