Softball: Meadows wins in nine innings over Addison Trail

Rolling Meadows advanced to Saturday's championship of the Class 4A Glenbard East softball regional with a dramatic 3-2 nine-inning triumph over No. 10 seeded Addison Trail on Wednesday.

The No. 7 Mustangs tied the game at 2-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and won it in the bottom of the ninth.

Sammy Elenz (1-for-2) led off the decisive inning with a walk.

The sophomore stole second and an error on the play allowed her to take third base.

She scored on pinch hitter Elise Kowalski's infield ground ball with no outs.

Senior Kendra Herring (10-3) went all nine innings for Meadows, tossing a 3-hitter with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Sara Benner, Sam Benner Stephanie Thompson and Sam Allen also had hits for the Mustangs (19-12), who face No. 2 Elk Grove (24-9) on Saturday at 11 a.m. for the championship.

Schaumburg 14, Streamwood 9: Sophomore Sophie Rainey (4-for-5, 4 RBI, 2 runs) belted 2 home runs and junior Talia Torosian (3-for-5, 3 runs, 4 RBI) had one as the No. 9 Saxons stopped the No. 8 Sabres in the Class 4A St. Charles East regional semifinal.

Other multiple hitters for Schaumburg were Tiffani Rudnick (3-for-5, 2 runs), Tatiana Cooper (2-for-5), Sage Moton (2-for-3) and Nikki Kolodziej (2-for-4).

Lauren Nielsen threw 5⅓ innings for the win. She struck out 10.

Schaumburg (12-20) faces top-seeded St. Charles East in Friday's 4:30 p.m. championship.

York 2, Maine West 0: No. 7 York blanked the Warriors (15-11) in their own Class 4A regional semifinal in Des Plaines.
