Glencoe Synagogue to Feature Noted Israeli Scholar Donniel Hartman to Project Future of the Jewish People

Internationally renowned scholar Rabbi Donniel Hartman, President of the Shalom Hartman Institute, which is the premiere center for advanced rabbinic study, will explore the significance of the new nationalism in Israel in terms of the changing legal, social, and cultural norms; and how this nationalism is playing a different role in the way Israelis look at themselves, their country and their relationship with the Jewish world.

On Friday evening May 17, in Frank Hall at North Shore Congregation Israel, 1185 Sheridan Road, Glencoe the Hartman program and dinner will follow Kabbalat Shabbat services beginning at 6:30 PM. Dinner is $20 per person. Dinner reservations are required by emailing your reservation to: aitzhayim@gmail.com.

Donniel Hartman's program will continue on Saturday, May 18, at the Tross Family Education Center at North Shore Congregation Israel. Shabbat services begin at 10:00 AM followed by Kiddush lunch and continued study, scheduled to conclude at 2:30 PM.

Hartman teaches pluralistic Judaism at every level, to rabbis of all denominations, to scholars of all religions and to religious and secular Israelis and diaspora Jews. His Hartman Institute is committed to fulfilling the Zionist dream of making the land of Israel the model of the best of Jewish values lived in public as well as private space.

Hartman contends there needs to be a dialogue between people of different religions and how this can be applied to Jewish values in Israel and Jewish society. The long-term implications of this dialogue are critical to Israel and to the broader Jewish world.
