Off-duty firefighter rescues three from blaze in Lisle

An off-duty Lisle-Woodridge firefighter rescued three residents who were unaware their house was on fire early Wednesday morning on the 5600 block of River Drive in Lisle, authorities said.

Firefighters said a passer-by called 911 at 6:20 a.m. to report the blaze and the first unit arrived on the scene four minutes later to find heavy fire.

The off-duty firefighter heard the initial radio report indicating three people might be trapped in the building and reached the house before the first units. He entered the building and was able to get all three people to safety.

No injuries were reported.

Lisle-Woodridge units were assisted at the scene by units from the Darien-Woodridge Fire District and the Downers Grove Fire Department and the fire was brought under control in roughly 20 minutes. Crews remained on the scene until about 9:10 a.m. conducting salvage duties and overhauling the burned areas of the structure.

The house was determined to be uninhabitable by DuPage County building department officials.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
