Husband of woman burned to death being held in Tennessee

O'FALLON, Ill. (AP) - Police in southern Illinois say the husband of a woman whose burning body was found inside an automobile has been taken into custody.

Authorities say Andrew Montez McKissick was taken into custody without incident late Monday and is being held at the Shelby County Jail in Memphis, Tennessee.

The body of 35-year-old Sherry Billups of O'Fallon was found early Monday. O'Fallon director of public safety Eric Van Hook says police responding to a call of a vehicle fire found the woman on fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 36-year-old McKissick is being held in Tennessee pending extradition to Illinois.

Court records show McKissick has served time in prison for a gun violation and for aggravated battery causing harm to a police officer.
