Redevelopment at AMC movie theater in Rosemont?

The 18-screen AMC movie theater in Rosemont's entertainment district may shut down six of those screens and parcel out that space to another user, village officials said.

With a two-story, 20,000-square-foot Harley-Davidson dealership nearly complete and construction about to begin on a one-story, 6,000-square-foot piano bar, changes to the multiplex would mark the next step in development of Parkway Bank Park, the 200,000-square-foot entertainment and dining district east of the Tri-State Tollway and north of Balmoral Avenue.

AMC is considering the changes to a portion of its Rosemont theater while "several potential end users" are being considered for the space occupied by the six screens, said Mayor Brad Stephens. Plans call for a dozen movie screens to remain.

"We want to see what fits," he said.

It's possible that space could be expanded, but what could make the retrofit difficult is that electrical and water lines run through that portion of the building, Stephens added.

The 104,798-square-foot theater, which opened as Muvico in 2007, preceded the formal opening of the village-owned park in 2012. Carmike Cinemas later took control, and that firm was acquired by AMC about a year ago.

Meanwhile, construction continues on the Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership and retail store, with plans for its opening by Memorial Day, Stephens said. Dealer Windy City Motorcycle Co. is leasing village-owned space between Hofbrauhaus Chicago and the Big Ten Conference headquarters for the store, which is being modeled after Harley-Davidson's corporate headquarters in Milwaukee.

And construction is expected to begin within days on Pete's Dueling Piano Bar, which will be situated between the AMC and iFLY indoor sky diving facility. The venue will feature nightly entertainment from four performers rotating in and out on two baby grand pianos on a stage. The bar also will have a 2,400-square-foot patio seating area.

The goal is to open by Labor Day, Stephens said.
