Dusty the Donkey saved from traffic on I-90

A Cook County sheriff's sergeant encountered unexpected obstacle on the Northwest Tollway around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday.

The sergeant found a donkey - named Dusty - standing in the middle of traffic near Arlington Heights Road, sheriff's spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.

"I've got to go," the sergeant says in a video of the incident posted online. "There's a donkey in the middle of I-90."

Dusty had not been secured in the trailer he was traveling in, Ansari said. Dusty's owner had purchased him that day, reporting him missing as soon as he realized he was gone.

On the video, the sergeant is unsure of what exactly to do with Dusty.

"I am in the middle of the expressway with a donkey," she said before asking the driver of another car to stand with Dusty while she (ahem) ass-essed the situation.

Dusty did not have any obvious injuries, but his owner said he was taking him to the vet to get checked out, according to Ansari.

"It was a great job by the sergeant in a situation you don't expect to see on a highway, and we are happy that Dusty was reunited with his owner," Ansari said.
