Arlington Heights families run and walk to raise funds for District 25

Some 500 students and adults in bright orange T-shirts - just one of several layers - braved cool temperatures early Saturday morning in a fun run to raise money for Arlington Heights schools.

The GetBurbed Challenge - a 5K run/walk and 1-mile run/walk formerly known as the Just Move It Challenge - took place in the South Middle School neighborhood. An awards ceremony and expo followed outside the school with music, vendors, karate demos, face painting and a silent auction.

Awards were given to the top three male and female finishers in more than a dozen age brackets. New this year in the 8th annual race was live chip timing.

Proceeds go to the ABC/25 Foundation, which raised more than $69,000 this school year for the nine schools in Arlington Heights Elementary District 25. Teachers and principals can apply for the grant money for initiatives in the classroom that don't fall under the normal allocation of school resources.

"We feel these grants can help foster ideas and support new innovative ideas for educating our kids," said Diane Liigsoo, race co-director and member of the ABC/25 board, in a news release.
