Campton Hills police investigate woman's death as homicide

The death of a 53-year-old woman is being investigated as a homicide, Campton Hills police said Monday.

Mary Summerwill was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she was pronounced dead Sunday, Campton Hills Deputy Police Chief Randy Johnson said.

Police were called by a family member at 6:56 a.m. and went to the woman's house on the 40W600 block of Willowbrook Drive. Authorities found she had suffered "blunt force trauma" injuries, Johnson said.

The death is being investigated as a homicide, he said. Police have interviewed several family members, but no one is detained and no charges have been filed, he said.

"The investigation is ongoing and is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community," read part of a media release from the department.

Johnson said authorities had not received or responded to any domestic disturbance calls at the house.

Neighbors, who declined to give their names, said Summerwill lived at the house with her husband, and the couple had two college-aged children.

The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is assisting Campton Hills police in the investigation.

Kane County Coroner Robert Russell could not immediately be reached Monday for information regarding the Summerwill autopsy, which police said was scheduled for Monday afternoon.
