Mental health facility worker pleads guilty to assaulting child

A juvenile mental health facility worker charged with sexually assaulting a resident was sentenced to 10 years in prison after accepting a plea agreement, Kane County authorities said Friday.

Darius Jones, 39, of the 3600 block of West Montrose Avenue in Chicago, also must register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to criminal sexual assault of a child.

Jones was employed at Northern Illinois Academy, a mental health residential treatment facility in Aurora, where the victim's case was assigned to him. Prosecutors said he abused the victim between September 2017 and January 2018.

According to Illinois law, Jones must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He receives credit for 84 days served in the Kane County jail.
