Woman charged with taking SUV with girl who called 911

BROWNSTOWN, Ind. (AP) - Charges have been filed against a southern Indiana woman accused a stealing a SUV with a 12-year-old girl inside who called 911 to report its whereabouts.

Auto theft and criminal confinement charges were filed Thursday in Jackson County against 28-year-old Shawna Lucas of Seymour.

Police say Lucas stole the vehicle Tuesday night outside a store while the girl's mother was inside. They say that as Lucas drove off, the girl told Lucas she was in the back seat and resisted Lucas' attempts to take her cellphone.

A Bartholomew County sheriff's deputy stopped the vehicle on Interstate 65 near Columbus. The girl wasn't hurt and was reunited with her mother at the scene.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Lucas. She's being held without bond pending an initial hearing.
