Indiana trooper hurt after cruiser struck in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana State Police say a trooper has been treated for back pain after a truck crashed into his cruiser in slushy conditions on Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.

Sgt. John Perrine says Trooper Andrew Atwell was injured in the crash about 5:10 a.m. Wednesday amid snow and sleet falling in the area.

Perrine says Atwell's cruiser was parked on the shoulder with its emergency lights activated when a truck driven by 57-year-old John Barry struck it from behind. Perrine says another vehicle may have splashed slush onto Barry's windshield.

Berry was ticketed for failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle.

Perrine says it was the fourth time in Atwell's two years on the state police force that he was inside his vehicle when it was struck by another vehicle.
