Blackberry Township picks Elburn woman as new supervisor

Esther Steel of unincorporated Elburn will take over as supervisor of Blackberry Township April 1.

The township board selected her Tuesday to replace Fred Dornback, who is resigning, effective March 31.

Steel will serve the remaining two years of Dornback's term.

She has lived in the township since 2014. Before that, she lived in Geneva.

Steel served on the Geneva Library board for 11 years, including 10 as president.

She ran for supervisor in 2017.

Steel could not be reached for comment Friday morning.

The post pays $22,500 a year.

Two other people applied for the job: Ron Shaw, and former township supervisor Dave Anderson. Anderson was supervisor for 14 years, and also served two terms as president of Elburn.
