Derailment still affecting Chicago electric-train line

CHICAGO (AP) - Crews on one of Chicago's major electric-train lines are still scrambling to repair damage caused by the derailment of a Canadian National freight train as Arctic cold descended on the city last week.

Metra announced Monday schedules on its Metra Electric Line will continue to be modified through Friday. Some trains are canceled and others will make additional stops.

Both the South Shore Line , which runs into northern Indiana, and the Metra Electric Line were closed for four days after sub-zero temperatures Wednesday and Thursday damaged lines that deliver power to the locomotives.

It's unclear if Wednesday's derailment was directly related to the cold. A Canadian National spokesman would only say the incident's under investigation. Cold in the double digits below zero can crack or even fully break railway tracks.
