District 73 board appoints new member

Vernon Hills resident George Fievet III has been appointed to the seat on the Hawthorn Elementary District 73 board of education vacated when former board member Julie Simpson stepped down in December.

Fievet will fill the seat until Simpson's term expires in April. He is running for a four-year term on the board in the April 2 election.

Fievet is a senior technical manager at AIM Specialty Health in Deerfield, where he has held multiple positions over the years. He started as a developer in 2006, was promoted to manager in 2007 and has continued to receive additional responsibilities as manager up to the present.

He and his wife, Julie, have lived in Vernon Hills for more than 12 years and have two sons who attend District 73 schools. He is active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 273 in Vernon Hills.

"We are so pleased to have an IT leader with more than 20 years of experience join our team," District 73 Interim Superintendent Mark Friedman said in an announcement of the appointment. "He will hit the ground running as we move into the second half of the school year."
