Remembering the Past nets $28,000

On Nov. 16, 298 Women's Club of Inverness members and guests gathered at the Meridian in Rolling Meadows to enjoy Memories of Christmas Past, the Women's Club of Inverness' fall fundraiser. The event raised more than $28,000.

The day featured a shopping boutique of area vendors, raffle baskets, a 50/50 raffle and presentations on flower arranging, baking for the holidays by a local chef, and scarf arranging for a new look - all followed by a plated lunch and a guest speaker.

Amy Meadows shared behind the scenes information about Marshall Field's holiday traditions. Their optical illusions always made the center Christmas tree seem taller. A trick and audience imagination allowed drifting snow in the windows to add seasonal nostalgia.

Members and guests smiled and shared memories of oversized candy canes, lunch at the Walnut room, and the delight of Uncle Mistletoe and Aunt Holly. Everyone went home with Frango Mints.

"The event came together perfectly," said one member. "Everyone was smiling," said another.

The warmth of the holidays increased with the knowledge that proceeds from the event were going to scholarships for local students and for grants to local charities which service women, families, children and seniors.

The Women's Club of Inverness is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and has been following a philanthropic mission for more than 50 years.

The spring fundraiser will be held April 11, at the Stonegate Banquet & Conference Centre, in Hoffman Estates.
