Believe Project: $100 for friend hurt in car crash

Today's recipient of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Nancy Humphrey of Palatine. Here is an excerpt of her story:

"I have a young friend who has gone through a terrible automobile accident this past year. Because of her injuries, she has spent months in the hospital, rehab facilities and now in outpatient rehabilitation.

"She is alone and unable to drive so must depend on public transportation to get to doctor appointments and rehab. She is unable to work so her financial situation is desperate.

"I know she is depressed but is trying to believe that her life will improve. $100 at this time of the year would lift her spirits. I would be so thankful if I could help her through your generosity."

• The Believe Project is awarding at least $100 daily in January to people with good ideas for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
