Wolves lose to Iowa, drop out of first place

The Iowa Wild held off a third-period flurry to pick up a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday night at Allstate Arena.

Rookie defenseman Dylan Coghlan opened the scoring just 1:50 into the game for the Wolves (20-11-3-1), who ceded first place in the Central Division to Iowa (19-8-4-3).

The Wild's Matt Read scored a pair of goals in the second, then Joel Eriksson Ek tapped home an empty-netter with 8.7 seconds to play.

Max Lagace (8-6-2) posted 23 saves for the Wolves while Andrew Hammond (9-4-1) notched 28 saves in the win.

The Wolves continue their homestand with 7 p.m. games on Friday and Saturday against the San Antonio Rampage.
