Man charged with killing mother, dumping body in trash can

CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man charged with killing his 67-year-old mother and dumping her body in a garbage can has been ordered held without bail.

Robert Wallace appeared in court Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder.

Police say the 25-year-old was arrested on the city's Far South Side on Christmas Eve, hours after sanitation workers discovered Betty Wallace's body in a garbage can a few blocks from her home.

An autopsy found Wallace had been stabbed multiple times and had blunt trauma injuries to her face.

Court records show Betty Wallace's family reported her missing on Sunday after she didn't show up for a birthday party. She hadn't been heard from or seen since Dec. 18.

It was unclear whether Robert Wallace has an attorney to comment on his behalf.
