District 211 board president Burke won't seek re-election; here's who is running

Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board President Mucia Burke will not seek re-election next spring, leaving six candidates vying for four seats on the board of education for the state's second largest high school district.

They include incumbents Will Hinshaw and Peter Dombrowski, both seeking their second terms, as well as Steven Rosenblum, who was appointed last year to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Lauanna Recker.

Newcomers on the ballot include Mark Cramer, a frequent critic of the board on fiscal issues who has managed campaigns for Republican challengers to Democratic state Rep. Fred Crespo; Matthew Saternus, who unsuccessfully ran for the Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 board in 2017 and later applied for the District 211 appointment; and Kimberly Cavill, who also sought the 2017 appointment.

Here's a rundown of who filed for other Northwest suburban school boards before Monday's deadline. Except where noted, the positions are for 4-year terms.

Maine Township High School District 207: Board Vice President Paula Meyer Besler and fellow incumbent Theresa "Teri" Collins have filed, along with newcomer Sheila Yousuf-Abramson, for three available seats.

Northwest Suburban High School District 214: Bill Dussling, a 20-year board member; Alva Kreutzer, a 19-year board member; and current Board Vice President Dan Petro, an 8-year board member, are running as a slate for re-election. They are members of the Supporters of District 214 establishment slate - undefeated since forming in 2007.

Barrington Area Unit District 220: Longtime Board President Brian Battle is not seeking re-election in 2019. Incumbent Angela Wilcox and newcomers Mathew W. Gray, Leah Collister Lazzari, Eva Cole and Barry Altschuler are running for three available seats.

Palatine Township Elementary District 15: Incumbent Zubair Khan has filed along with newcomers Adam Bauske, Yuriy Figel, Samantha Bray Ader, Wenda Hunt, Lisa A. Krams, James Taylor and Nina Palit, with three seats available.

Wheeling Township Elementary District 21: Board Vice President Staci Allan is running again, while Jessica Riddick, appointed in 2017, is seeking her first full term. Parent Stacy Hipsak Goetz is running for the third available seat on the board. Current board member Jennifer Tani, who also was appointed in 2017, says she's not running due to professional and personal obligations.

Prospect Heights Elementary District 23: An uncontested race for five available seats is made up of incumbents Brian Greidanus, Carol Botwinski, Mari-Lynn Peters, Jim Bednar and newcomer Gonca Paul. Current Board President Jeff Bowes has not filed for re-election.

Arlington Heights Elementary District 25: Only incumbents have filed for the three available positions: board President Brian Cerniglia, Chad Conley (appointed in December 2017) and Scott Filipek (appointed in June 2018).

River Trails Elementary District 26: Board President Frank Fiarito, Vice President Donna Johnson and Samuel Bae, appointed in 2017, are seeking 4-year terms, while Robert Rognstad and Janine Freedlund, both appointed in October, are seeking 2-year terms.

Elgin Area School District U-46: Eight candidates are vying for four 4-year terms. They include incumbents Sue Kerr of Bartlett and Jeanette Ward of West Chicago, both running for a second term; John Devereux of Bartlett, who was appointed to the board in June; and Eva Porter, Daniel Hancock, Tina Rio, Kathleen Thommes of Elgin, and Ina Silva-Sobolewski. Board member Phil Costello of Bartlett is not seeking re-election.

Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54: Board President Mary Kay Prusnick and fellow incumbents Bill Harper and Barbara Hengels have filed for re-election to the three available seats.

Mount Prospect Elementary District 57: Incumbent Jennifer Kobus and newcomers Rachael Rothrauff, Kristine O'Sullivan and Kimberly Fay are running, with three seats open.

Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59: A crowded race has formed of seven candidates for three seats. They include longtime board member Barbara Somogyi; a two-person slate composed of Courtney Lang and Randall Reid; and James Goranson, Daniel Naumowicz, Lisa Griffin and Patricia "Patti" Petrielli. Incumbent Tim Burns announced he is not running.

Des Plaines Elementary District 62: Incumbents Beth Morley and Tina Garrett, the latter of whom was appointed in 2017, are joined by newcomers Jeannette Weller and Kelly Morrissey in a race for three open positions.

Rosemont Elementary District 78: Incumbents Christopher Stephens, Edward Muszynski and Grant Bailey are joined by newcomer Kristina Monaco in an uncontested election for four open spots.

Kildeer Countryside Elementary District 96: Incumbents Mike Burns, Dina Manka and Meg Woodman are joined by newcomers Salma Syed and Kelly Rokosz in a race for three seats.

Aptakisic-Tripp Elementary District 102: Board President Ellyn Ross, fellow incumbent Marnie Slavin Masur and newcomer Nathan Libbey have filed for the three available seats.
