The Latest: Pilot in serious condition after Hawaii crash
HONOLULU (AP) - The Latest on a plane crash off the coast of Hawaii (all times local):
4 p.m.
Authorities say the pilot of an airplane that crashed off Hawaii during a military exercise is in serious condition.
Honolulu Emergency Services spokesman Dustin Malama says the 47-year-old appears to have traumatic injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the pilot is a civilian contractor for the Hawaii Air National Guard who was participating in a military exercise called Sentry Aloha at the time of the crash.
The Coast Guard says the pilot was rescued about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of Oahu near Honolulu's Sand Island.
It wasn't immediately known what caused the crash.

A state Department of Transportation spokesman says departing flights are once again taking off at Honolulu's airport after a plane crashed in the water nearby.
Tim Sakahara says departing flights were held for about 20 minutes as a precaution.
The U.S. Coast Guard says a civilian contractor for the Hawaii Air National Guard who was participating in a military exercise survived after his plane crashed about 3 miles south of Oahu near Honolulu's Sand Island.
Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Sara Muir says the pilot is in stable condition after being rescued.

She says the pilot was rescued about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Oahu near Honolulu's Sand Island.
Muir says as far as she knows only one person was on board the plane.
State Department of Transportation spokesman Tim Sakahara says departing flights from the Honolulu airport are being held as a precaution.

A military spokesman says rescuers have recovered a pilot in unknown condition after an aircraft crashed in the ocean on Wednesday.
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam spokesman Charles Anthony says the military has not confirmed the plane was a military aircraft. He says it was a military affiliated plane, but may be civilian.
