Put aside differences as we remember the reason for the season

Some 2,000 years ago, while shepherds were tending their flocks, an angel announced to them "unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior which is Christ the Lord." This is according to Luke, Chapter 2, in the Bible. Christians have celebrated His birth ever since.

I don't know about you, but when that first snowfall arrives, I begin to think that "it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas." Yes, Christmas is just around the corner.

Christmas may also just be "the most wonderful time of the year."

Christmas is special as we see families, friends and neighbors gather in the town square to celebrate the season. There seems to be smiles on people's faces and children await the arrival of Santa. Yes, there is something that draws people together. They forget their troubles and differences and enjoy the season. This was witnessed when the Village of Huntley kicked off the Christmas season.

Christmas also brings a time of busyness. It seems that we are constantly on the go and when we wake up on Dec. 26, we ask ourselves, "where did it all go?" Christmas is over for another year.

Christmas is the time of the year when Christians around the world celebrate the birth of their Savior, Jesus Christ. In fact, the story is told that during WWI, soldiers from all sides of the war paused to recognize Christmas and sang "Silent Night" in their own language.

So, as we get wrapped up in the busyness of the season, let's put our differences aside and pause to remember that "Jesus is the reason for the season." Merry Christmas.
