Barrington's Farmhouse on North celebrates two-year anniversary

Ribbon cuttings typically occur when a new business opens or celebrates a major renovation, but such was not the case in Barrington last week.

Barrington village officials, Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce representatives and others gathered to snip the ribbon to mark the two-year anniversary of Farmhouse on North, 117 North Ave.

"We opened our farm-to-table restaurant in 2016 and are thrilled to be celebrating two years of serving the Barrington area," owner Meghan McGinty said. "My grandfather's ancestors were in the restaurant business and my grandmother's ancestors have roots in farming. This made the perfect marriage, which led me to where I am today."

As the name implies, the restaurant features housemade seasonal dishes by sourcing from local farms. McGinty, a Lake Zurich High School graduate who studied finance at Loyola University in Chicago, said she began dreaming about opening a restaurant in first grade.

Farmhouse on North's current menu has items such as cheesy corn fritters served with whipped honey butter as a starter, a maple-cheddar hamburger with candied pork jowls and caramel apple cobbler for dessert.
