Warrenville firefighters are expected to remain at the scene of a Galusha Farm barn fire through at least Wednesday, authorities said.

The fire erupted Monday morning, and firefighters had it contained by that afternoon. But Sgt. Robert Harris of the DuPage County Sheriff's Department, which is leading the investigation into the blaze, said several small smoldering fires remain in what's left of more than 30,000 bales of hay.

"They can't even get in to complete their investigation," Harris said Tuesday.

He said the Warrenville Fire Protection District will be keeping a truck at the farm until the smoldering is fully extinguished.

No injuries were reported, authorities said, either to people or to horses housed on the unincorporated site on the 27W200 block of Galusha Avenue.

The farm, owned by Steve Berning, is known for its year-round sale of hay and straw stored inside the barn to keep it dry. The farm's website says it serves 14 counties.

The farm also boards horses and ponies.

Fire officials said the cause of the blaze is not yet known but is not considered suspicious.
