Crash on highway injures state trooper, semi-trailer driver

GARY, Ind. (AP) - A state trooper and semi-trailer driver have been injured in a crash on Interstate 94 near Gary, Indiana.

State police say Trooper Zachary Huston was handling an earlier single-vehicle crash late Monday night when the truck lost control and jack-knifed into Huston's patrol car on a shoulder of the highway. The patrol car then struck the vehicle involved in the earlier crash.

Police say the patrol car's emergency lights were activated.

The 25-year-old Huston suffered non-life threatening injuries. The truck's 55-year-old driver was hospitalized with serious injuries. He also was ticketed for unsafe lane movement.

The driver of the third car was not injured, but was ticketed for driving with expired license plates.
