Wheeler wins in 50th House race

Incumbent Republican state Rep. Keith Wheeler easily beat newcomer James Leslie, an Aurora Democrat and firefighter/paramedic, in the 50th House District race.

Unofficial vote totals with all precincts in Kane and Kendall counties reporting show Wheeler secured 24,548 votes to Leslie's 19,631 votes.

Rising property taxes, the state's fiscal woes and Springfield power politics took center stage during the campaign.

Wheeler, 51, of Oswego, called for better balance of power in Springfield and reforming the process of presenting bills for consideration.

The 50th District includes parts of Aurora, Batavia, Campton Hills, Elburn, Geneva, Oswego, and St. Charles.
